The Switch's Joy-Cons are pretty good, but for the full console experience you're going to want to invest in a Pro Controller.
The only problem is that the controller isn't cheap, and will set you back $70 (£65/AU$100).

It's not perfect. After all the Pro Controller's face buttons are in the wrong place compared to the Xbox controller (which the majority of PC games are designed for), not to mention the fact that the controller doesn't feature analogue triggers like its Microsoft equivalent.
It's also not able to be used via Bluetooth while plugged into a USB port, meaning you can't charge it while it's in use.
It does however support Steam's 'Big Picture' mode which is a version of the software optimised for controllers.

Get devcon.exe, and put it in the PATH or next to the driver to install.Make sure you install the amd64 driver on 64 bit Windows, and the x86 driveron 32 bit

To uninstall ScpVBus, run
devcon remove RootScpVBusor in DeviceManager right click System Devices/Scp Virtual Bus Driver and hit 'Uninstall'
Or, you can install the ScpToolkit if you don't want to do it manually. Thisinstalls a bunch of extra software that isn't required, however. Especiallymake sure to not install the Bluetooth driver if you aren't going to useDualshock 3 controllers via Bluetooth, as they can interfere with normalBluetooth usage.
Building
You can use the included project for Visual Studio 2017. If you don't haveVS2017, you can add the files to an empty C++ project. Then, set C++Language Standard to /std:c++latest, add setupapi.lib to linker input, andbuild.
Using
Plug in the Pro Controller, then run ProconXInput.exe. Press CTRL+C whenyou're done.
If the controller is plugged in and the driver doesn't detect it or doesn'twork properly, try replugging it before running the driver. Sometimes thecontroller can get 'stuck' and won't reinitialize properly after computerreboots or driver crashes/unexpected closes.
