The Controller Was Disconnected During a Firmware Update
If your controller was disconnected during a firmware upgrade, it will not function until the firmware is recovered. To do this, the controller will need to be updated from scratch. Note: In this condition, the wireless on the controller is nonfunctional. This has to be done over USB.
Tip: https://omglittle.netlify.app/download-torrent-bassnectar-unlimited-lossless.html. If you have problems getting the controller to turn on, removing the batteries for 15 minutes before recovery is known to help in situations where this occurs.
Plug your controller into an Xbox One console or a PC. At this point, your method will vary. It should also be noted one functional controller is required to use a console for controller firmware recovery.
To recover the controller on a console, follow these steps:
- Step 1: On the console, navigate to Devices and Accessories.
- Step 2: Find the Elite controller. It should say Update Required if it is the correct controller.
- Step 3: Re-run the firmware update.
PC recovery requires Windows 10 as a prerequisite. Newer versions of Windows 10 no longer require a Microsoft Account to download the required programs, but older versions usually do. Users on older versions of Windows 10 will need to convert an account or make a new account just for this task. After you have confirmed you have a Windows 10 system, you can begin the process of recovering the controller.
- Step 1: Install the Xbox Accessories application.
- Step 2: Once Xbox Accessories is installed, plug the controller in. It should turn on and say Update Required if your controller is visible to the PC and Xbox Accessories.
- Step 3: Click Update Required and allow the firmware to reinstall.
If you followed these steps correctly, your controller should be functional again.
The Controller Does Not Function on the Computer
When the controller is plugged into the computer using a USB cord, the controller does not function.
The Controller Drivers Are Not Installed
In Windows 7 and 8.x, the Xbox One Elite controller is known to have problems with automatic driver installation. This issue is well documented and caused by a lack of drivers bundled with the operating system and Windows Update detection problems. Unlike the standard controller, the only option to fix this issue is manually installing the driver through Device Manger.
Note: The Elite controller does not offer a .exe driver package. The driver must be obtained through Microsoft Update Catalog. This also means administrative permissions (or the Administrator password) is required to fix the controller when automatic driver detection fails if you have a Standard or Limited account.
- Step 1: Plug in the controller. The initial driver installation is very likely to fail, so be prepared to exit the window. If it works the first time, then the driver was already on the system.
- Step 2: Open Device Manager and select the Xbox One Controller. This is typically located under Xbox Peripherals (Legacy).
- Step 3: Select the Driver tab.
- Step 4: Click Update Driver.
- Step 5: Use Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software. Skip this step if you want to retain a local copy on your device because your controller is used on multiple PC's.
- Step 6: If Step 5 did not work, download the driver from Microsoft and put this somewhere on your computer for manual installation.
Microsoft Xbox One Controller Driver Download
This procedure should clear up issues with the Xbox Button not activating properly when pressed within PGP and also fix the new Xbox One driver that uses both Z-axis and Z-rotation for the triggers (vs. just one or the other in the older driver, forget which one it is). I think Microsoft changed this scheme to allow for greater range and sensitivity in its controller triggers. Essentially they moved the old Z-axis from a signed bit variable (allowing for - and + values), to an unsigned bit variable corresponding to the Z-axis AND Z-rotation, and then applied it to each trigger (changing the total range from -32xxx <-> +32xxx to two triggers ranging from 0 <-> 65xxx).
In addition, PGP doesn't recognize the newest Windows 10 edition of the Xbox One controller driver and doesn't register it as an XINPUT (Xbox-360-type) controller and therefore any Xbox 360-style controller configurations you try and import or apply will not get imported and applied correctly. I have tried to import my Elder Scrolls Online profile unsuccessfully using the new Xbox One Controller driver; however, when following this new procedure, it imports just fine.
Windows 10 uses its own new proprietary driver for the Xbox One controller, meaning it reads the Xbox One controller in Windows 10 differently than Windows 8 reads it, etc. Obviously this is going to cause problems with PGP and I believe I have found a solution.
You can confirm for yourself that you will have this problem with your current driver configuration by opening up PGP, opening up 'Preferences', then 'Device Settings' and select your Xbox One controller from the 'CONTROLLER DEVICES' pane. From here, you should notice 2 things:
1. Clicking '[game controllers]', selecting your Xbox One Controller from the 'Installed Game controllers pane', and then clicking properties should bring up your test window where you can check all of your buttons. You'll notice if you're using the new Windows 10 Xbox One controller driver that you'll have 4 bars: Z-Axis, Z-Rotation, X-Rotation, and Y-Rotation. This discrepancy from the 3 bars that you would see if you were using the older Xbox One controller driver is explained above.
2. Click the 'Advanced Properties' button and wait for the Advanced Properties window to open. Now select your Xbox One controller again and on the left side of the 'CONTROLLER DEVICES' pane you will see a paper clip icon. Click that and wait for the 'Device Properties' window to open. Look for the section titled: 'XINPUT DEVICE:'. You want this to read 'YES' but PGP's reading of the new Windows 10 Xbox One Controller driver shows up as 'NO', meaning lots of incompatibilities. If it reads 'YES' then either PGP fixed the issue, or Microsoft did, or something went wrong somewhere if you haven't switched to using the older Xbox One Driver for PC yet.
NOTE: This applies to Windows 10 Users! it also assumes you already have the Xbox One controller driver installed and using the Windows 10 version of this driver. If you don't have it installed yet, simply plugging in your controller should queue Windows to install the device driver (although this driver is not the one we want and will be changing it using the procedure below!)
Pre: Make sure PGP is shutdown! Your Xbox controller should also be plugged in at this point.
1. Download the Xbox One Driver for PC here (if you're using 64-bit, otherwise you can find the drivers on the Xbox site): http://mjr.mn/XboxOnePCDriversx64
2. Install the aforementioned Xbox One Controller for PC Driver
3. Update the current Xbox One Controller driver from Device Manager
a. Right-click the Windows Button in the bottom left-corner of the desktop
b. Click the Device Manager option from the pop-up context menu
c. Wait for the system to load up all the devices
d. Find Xbox Peripherals in the list and expand the list
e. Find Xbox One Controller from the expanded list
f. Right-click the Xbox One Controller and select 'Properties'
g. Select the 'Driver' tab and click the 'Update Driver' button
h. From the new window that opened up, select 'Browse my computer for driver software'
i. Click the 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'
j. From the 'Compatible Hardware' pane, select the Model: 'Microsoft Xbox One Controller'
k. Click 'Next' and wait for the install process to finish
l. You may need to restart your computer for the process to finish.
4. Restart PGP, perform the Controller Setup wizard with your Xbox controller and its newly installed driver.
5. Test that it works by pressing the Xbox Button when editing a configuration. You can also check using the 2 check methods I listed towards the beginning of this post.
I can't confirm that you necessarily need to install the driver from the above web address in order for it to show up in the Compatible Hardware but I figure its a safe bet as I know for sure that driver works with PGP.
