Jackson: Does uTorrent continue to download while my computer is in sleep mode?
self-explanatory question… when my laptop is sleeping does uTorrent keep downloading? or does it pause until the computer is woken up. Thanks
Find out if you can download stuff in sleep mode with help from an expert in information systems, programming languages, web development, and network security in this free video clip. Sleep is a lowered power state, but it is not turned off. Obviously, if the computer was off, nothing would work. Windows, as far as I know, doesnt provide programmers the ability to write code that executes while the PC is a sleep state. However, that does not mean programs are not running. Windows needs to detect events that wake the PC.

It differs, sometimes it may seed or download, but i would recommend going to your screen saver settings and turning it off by selecting the screen saver: None. Also go into power settings and make sure monitor doesnt turn itself off after a while too.

Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothraki—whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, the cruel, vainglorious Prince Joffrey, and the queen’s brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannister—the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind. All are heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms.
Mostly interested in doing it on some Win7 laptops, a lot of people seem to believe its not possible. However I can't find any definitive Microsoft documents detailing it either way:
- This old documentation (Server 2003) says its not supported
- This technet article details from May 2008 (& speaking about Vista) says 'Note that when your system is in sleep mode, it can still wake up at specified times to download and install updates'
- kb2799178 detailed that some Win8 PC's (mostly desktops) did support this capability via a setting in Control Panel->Action Center (& a 'Regular Maintenance' task in scheduled tasks)
Background: I have 20 Win7 laptops (Dell Latitude E5550) in a cart & I'd like updates to happen off-hours so users aren't bothered during work hours. We have a GPO that says to install them automatically & I believe it may make them restart Magic lantern dual iso download pc.

Yep, you can configure the 'Enabling Windows Update Power Management to automatically wake up the system to install scheduled updates' GPO setting. It requires Vista or higher:
Allowing scheduled wakeup will need to be supported and enabled in your BIOS too.
